While City of Sakuragawa is surrounded by rich natures in countryside, but its city center is concentrated in very limited area, where a number of unique Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings are located., Considering a challenging situation where private sectors actively get involved in landscape planning for the area due to their weak local economy, we proposed a very specific plan for Cultural landscape preservation and improvement that can enhance the local residents’ interests and understanding of their own landscape. To achieve this goal, we tried to make our plan book easy to read for everybody as a “reading material”, rather than a design proposal, on the basis of on our philosophy that regional landscape was created and sustained by a combination of their unique lifestyle and continuous tradition.
Nerima was once a home of the firefly, which could be found around the backyard till 1950’s. Restoring the natural environment for fireflies brings back biodiversity to local community, since their habitat is so close to people. We created local open space planning and design through the public participation.
Years have passed since the formulation of Masterplan for Parks and Open Spaces based on city fundamental law in city of Musashino. We examined and raised key items for future revision through the quantitative and qualitative assessment on their progress.
We created an activity program plan for Shimanami earthland park (35ha) that can implement an ecological education program to: 1) further understand increasing environmental problems, 2) review our own lifestyle, and 3) engage these environmental problems.
